Craniostenosis is defined as premature closure
of one or more of skull sutures.
•
Clinical manifestations and diagnosis
Skull deformity is the direct result of the premature
fusion of the sutures( Scaphocephaly- Brachycephaly-Oxycephaly)
•
Palpation of the closed suture reveals a
prominent bony ridge.
•
Signs of increased intracranial tension
(headache, projectile vomiting, blurring of vision and papilledema) may be
present.
•
Convulsions may occur.

•

of the suture(s)
•

Treatment
•
Surgical craniectomy of the affected suture.
